Danny Anderson was elected to the office of State Commander, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Florida in June 2018 at the 88th Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.
Danny joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 906 in Hutchingson, MN in 1995. When he moved to Florida he joined the Ellenton Post 9226 Ellenton, FL. Danny has worked through the chairs at the Post level where he served as the Post Quartermaster for 5 years, and then through the chairs at the District level before being elected to the position of State Surgeon in 2015. Danny was also the State Director of the VFW Riders Group for the Department of Florida.
Danny served in the Navy from 1971-1979. His first duty station was aboard the USS James E. Keyes DD787 which brought him to Vietnam in January 1972 where he served 2 tours of duty. After that Danny served 2 years in Guam where he assisted in the Vietnam evacuation called Operation Baby Lift. He was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation. When he left Guam he was ordered back to Great Lakes to be an instructor for BTA School. He was discharged in September 1979 but came back to the same school as a civilian instructor for the Navy.
Danny was born in Alexandria, MN and graduated high school in St. Louis Park, MN and attended the Lake County College in IL. He currently teaches on line at the Bismarck State College in North Dakota.
Danny is a member of the AmVets, American Legion and the DAV.
Danny and his wife Rose reside in Ellenton, Florida. They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren.
